Fashion Week, Day Three

It seems like Fashion Week across the pond is more about the show and Fashion Week in New York is more about the clothes. So leave it to London-designer Matthew Williamson to bring a little show to New York. His neon disco colors danced about on the stage in a shocking contrast to some of the other shows so far. And beware, hoodies look like they may make an appearance in high fashion.

Diane von Furstenberg presented a collection that hit hard on her working girl theme, only with bright, peppery colors based on a Spanish influence that ran through the show. Her wrap dresses are timeless and really should be a part of every woman’s wardrobe.

The scene:
Bridget Moynahan, Carmen Electra, Susan Sarandon, Ellen Barkin and Charlie Rose were just some of the celebrities there.

Last night was the Marc Jacobs show, which gives me an opportunity to rant. Vegas is home to one of just a handful of standalone stores in the United States. No invite. I know it’s probably the toughest invitation to get, but this is Las Vegas and Image deserves to be there. Maybe next season.

But that doesn’t mean there weren’t some big shows yesterday. Carolina Herrera showed her fall collection, always a stunner. Look for raindrop-themed dresses in lovely violets and a cocktail dress with rows of looped ribbons on a navy taffeta. Her smart, sportswear attitude showed with this carefully edited collection. Look for fur trim (muskrat!) on tunics and jackets. You can find Carolina Herrera at the Forum Shops at Caesars.

The scene:
Kim Cattrall was on hand. Here’s where I should note that photographers are getting little action in the celebrity department. Many of the same people show up at more than one show (Kelly Rowland, are you a fashion editor now?).

Oscar de la Renta
, another one of my favorite designers, put out a similarly compelling fall line that emphasized the sportwear trend. Long sweaters trimmed in fur (more muskrat!, coyote!), pretty
