October 6, 2005

“The Senate on Wednesday voted to make Coast casinos pay another 1 percent of their gross revenue in exchange for letting them rebuild on land after Katrina destroyed their gambling barges,” reports today’s Biloxi Sun Herald.

“Casino and House leaders were infuriated. They said that in a special session aimed at helping casinos rebuild, all the Senate has managed to do after nearly two weeks of inaction is raise the industry’s taxes.”

” ‘I thought we had laws against hurricane price gouging,” said state Rep. Michael Janus, R-Biloxi.’ ”
