That's the advice public health experts give those suffering colds and flu, but the Los Angeles Times reports that many workers feel they cannot take a day off, even though they could be spreading germs to co-workers in the cold and flu season.
Top employees feel their organizations expect them to soldier on for the benefit of customers and clients, while low-wage workers say they either do not get sick pay or they prefer to let it accumulate because they need the money.
A recent survey shows that 90 percent of workers fear that taking time off is "too risky" or that they will fall behind in their work. On the other hand, one employer tells the paper: "… we expect you to come to work. If it's a mild cold — well, it's like, tough it out."
Employers are cutting back on sick days and don't allow them to be accumulated from year to year, which only encourages "presenteeism."
So remember, it's never too late to get that flu shot.
