Here’s another scary thought for travelers. Nationwide, airlines lost 10,000 bags a day last year, reports USA Today. That’s a 23 percent jump from the year before says the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Passengers reported 3.5 million lost bags. And here’s the good news: Most of them were found. US Airways was the worst offender but Las Vegas’ favorite airline, Southwest, also had a bad year on the carousel with a 27 percent jump in lost bags. They blamed it on new baggage systems in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Baltimore.
As one passenger tells the paper, it’s the main reason everyone races onto the plane and tries to cram as much stuff as possible into the overhead storage bins. That way, you’re sure it’ll get there with you.
