There’s no business too off-beat to be offering gift cards, reports USA Today. Everyone, including strip clubs and tattoo parlors are getting into the act.
Scores, for example, is offering the plastic money in denominations of $50, $100 and $500. That last one will get a lot of lap dances but a club manager says the cards cannot be used for tipping. We can understand the weekend away gift cards but you’d want to be careful who you’re giving a tattoo parlor card. It could very easily end up on one of those swap Web sites even before the holidays are over.
The booming demand for the gift cards and the easy electronic exchange mechanisms mean that just about any business can take advantage of them now, and plenty are in Las Vegas, as the Business Press reported this week. The downside in fees and the like falls mainly on the consumer, so giftee beware, or at least use that card before it expires.
